New Year, New Rates?

pexels-photo-27843New Year’s resolutions… love them or hate them, this is the time of year when the gym gets packed and it seems like all of your friends are trying out a new diet. Many are setting goals to lose weight, but having good health touches all aspects of your life, including your life & health insurance rates.

These preventable conditions do affect your insurance rates when you go to get a quote:

  • Diabetes
  • Heart Conditions
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Cholesterol
  • Drinking
  • Smoking
  • Weight

So what can you do to to get healthier and lower rates?

  • Try avoiding cholesterol inducing fatty foods like fast food
  • Quit smoking (sorry smokers, there is nothing else you can do here)
  • Get out and exercise 3 times a week for 30 minutes.
  • If you’re stuck at a desk all day, try taking a mid morning or mid afternoon walk for even ten minutes and doing a 20 or 30 minute workout before or after work.
  • Keep the drinks to a minimum. When you do drink, try to consume something with antioxidants and lower caloric content like red wine

While your insurance rates may not be top of mind, it is still a great reminder that good health affects so may pieces of your life- even things that you don’t often think of!
