That Which You DON’T Want To Do…

I could talk about organization all day long—in fact, if you caught last week’s blog about minimalism, you’ll start to catch a bit of my obsession with cleanliness.  But getting a house organized is one thing—I can master that….I’ve become the “go-to” friend in my circle for all things advice in terms of what to shred, what to dump and what to donate.

The process of organization may start in your home, but after that, there’s an area in your life that is likely being ignored—or at the very least, postponed until further notice.

When was the last time you:

  • Confirmed that your life insurance beneficiary information was up to date?
  • Checked on your life insurance EXPIRATION date?
  • Updated your will?
  • Organized all of your important policies in a fire-proof safe, in one location?
  • Met with an Estate Attorney to set up a Family Trust?
  • Visited at least once a year with your CPA to make sure you’re taking the necessary tax deductions?
  • Established yourself with a TRUSTED financial adviser who can help you to plan your financial and retirement future?

Some say we “put off the things until tomorrow that we don’t want to deal with today”….and when it comes to these things, that couldn’t be more the case.  Being in a health/financial industry for almost ten years, it is no surprise that the checklist above derives all sorts of negative feelings—it takes TIME….a PLAN…..and it’s so much simpler to shove those thoughts to the back of your mind, isn’t it?

Start with one.  Get it on the calendar.  DEFEAT IT.  Go to the next.  But DO IT.  You’ll rest easy at the end of the day knowing you’ve secured your future, planned responsibly, and will have done all you can do to protect your family and home.
